Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his best wishes to Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who was sworn in as the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government. Modi expressed hope that normalcy would soon return to Bangladesh.

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) around 10 PM on Thursday, Narendra Modi wrote, “Best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus on assuming his new responsibilities. We (India) hope that a normal environment will return to Bangladesh quickly, and that the safety and security of all minority communities, including Hindus, will be ensured.” The Indian Prime Minister further added, “India is committed to working with Bangladesh to fulfill the shared aspirations of our people for peace, security, and development.”

Following widespread student and public protests, Sheikh Hasina resigned from her position as Prime Minister and left the country on Monday. An interim government, led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus and comprising 17 advisors, has been formed to govern the country. Dr. Yunus and 13 other advisors took their oaths tonight in a ceremony at Bangabhaban, administered by the President.

Shortly after the advisors of the interim government were sworn in, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
