Senior Supreme Court lawyer Md. Asaduzzaman has been appointed as the Attorney General of Bangladesh. President Md. Shahabuddin appointed him to this position, with the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs issuing the order today, Thursday.
The order states that under the power vested in the President by Article 64(1) of the Constitution, Md. Asaduzzaman has been appointed as the Attorney General of Bangladesh until further notice.
Md. Asaduzzaman becomes the country’s 17th Attorney General, succeeding AM Amin Uddin.
When asked, senior lawyer Md. Asaduzzaman told Prothom Alo that he would assume his responsibilities today.
Following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina’s government amid student and public protests, AM Amin Uddin submitted his resignation to the President yesterday, citing personal reasons. This led to the vacancy, and the new Attorney General was appointed today.
