In the wake of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and her subsequent departure to India amidst a wave of popular protests, the political climate in Bangladesh has descended into some chaos, with reports of communal violence surfacing in various areas.

Against this backdrop, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, visited the historic Dhakeshwari Temple in Dhaka to assess the situation and offer support. The visit was part of Jamaat-e-Islami’s broader response to the current unrest and incidents of violence targeting minority communities and dissenting voices.

During his visit, Dr. Rahman met with temple authorities and Hindu leaders to discuss the situation. Addressing the media afterward, he condemned any form of violence or damage inflicted by criminals, particularly those using Jamaat-e-Islami or its student wing, Chhatra Shibir, as a cover for their actions. He called for the identification of such perpetrators, assuring that those responsible would be held accountable and face exemplary punishment.

Dr. Rahman emphasized Jamaat-e-Islami’s commitment to protecting all communities and ensuring peace during this tumultuous period. He sought cooperation from the Hindu community to address and report any instances of violence.

The interim government, led by Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, is set to take the oath of office at 8 PM tonight at Bangabhaban. It is anticipated that this new government will work swiftly to stabilize the law and order situation in the country.
