The BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia, is to be released immediately, according to the party’s Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. This announcement was made to the press on Monday night following a meeting with the President at Bangabhaban.
Mirza Fakhrul stated, “Today, the economy has been destroyed, and politics has been ruined. They have left the country in ruins. The nation and country have now been freed from this terrible monstrous grip.”
“I would like to thank our patriotic army,” he continued. “They have taken appropriate steps at the right time. They have invited all political parties here (to Bangabhaban) for discussions. They have also talked with the leading student activists. Following discussions with the President, several fundamental decisions were made, including the dissolution of parliament and the rapid formation of an interim government, along with the immediate release of Begum Khaleda Zia.”
Additionally, those decisions include the release of all leaders, activists, and student leaders unjustly detained since July 1. They also cover the release of all those who have been wrongfully imprisoned.
Mirza Fakhrul mentioned, “Following Hasina’s escape, we are in a situation, especially concerning law and order, that all political parties and student leaders must work together to control. I call upon the nation to recognize the major achievement we have made.”
“To maintain this success and prevent any adverse outcomes, we must exercise restraint. We should not act out of anger, hatred, or revenge. We must avoid damaging any institutions. Begum Khaleda Zia has urged everyone to be patient, remain calm, and safeguard the nation and its people. Ensure the success of the initiatives taken today.”
Mirza Fakhrul also highlighted that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has been unjustly exiled due to false charges and has supported the movement from abroad. He has been leading the anti-fascist movement. All necessary measures are being taken to bring him back to the country promptly, and we will succeed, Insha’Allah.
He concluded by reflecting on the struggle against the authoritarian government over the past 16 years. “The BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was unjustly imprisoned, and thousands of our leaders and activists were wrongly sentenced and jailed. False cases have been filed against nearly 600,000 of our members, who have endured unspeakable torture and oppression under Sheikh Hasina’s government across various departments.”
