Alama Shah Muhibbulah Babungari, the Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, has called on the public to rally in support of the student-led ‘One-Point Demand’ movement in Dhaka. This appeal was issued in a statement to the media on Sunday, August 4.

In his statement, Alama Babungari remarked, “The brave students and citizens of our country have scheduled a ‘Dhaka March’ for Monday. In support of this cause, I urge people from all walks of life, regardless of political or ideological differences, to join the march in Dhaka. This is our critical fight for freedom. Those who have deprived us of our fundamental rights, restricted our political and religious freedoms, perpetrated mass killings, and sought to impose autocratic control over us must be decisively confronted.”

He continued, “The memory of the May 5 massacre in Motijheel’s Shapla Square still burns in our hearts. Many bodies were hidden, and attempts were made to obscure the true extent of the tragedy under the threat of violence. The parliament’s handling of the martyrs’ deaths was marked by disgraceful deceit and misinformation. Despite facing numerous hardships, imprisonments, and conspiracies, we have remained patient, trusting in divine justice. Now, the time has come to resist this tyranny.”

Alama Babungari also emphasized, “This autocratic regime has been responsible for continuous violence, including against innocent students involved in the quota reform movement. We must not allow these oppressive forces any further opportunity to act. To ensure our survival, achieve justice, and protect our nation’s sovereignty, it is essential for everyone to unite and take to the streets in solidarity with the student movement.”
