Cumilla, August 3, 2024: In an incident on Saturday afternoon, seven students were shot, and at least 30 others were injured when members of the Volunteer and Jubo League attacked a protest rally by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the Police Lines and Racecourse areas of the city.

The injured students are Arfan Majumder (16), Sourav (25), Maruf (16), Asif (11), Mridul (12), Sujan (13), and Sani (18). Among them, Sourav, who sustained a severe eye injury, has been transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. The others are receiving medical care at Cumilla Medical College Hospital. Many of the injured have returned home after receiving initial treatment.

Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, the director of Cumilla Medical College Hospital, confirmed the incident. He stated, “Sourav’s eye injury is severe. He has been sent to the Eye Institute in Dhaka.”
