Dhaka, July 25, 2024 — In a somber turn of events, the bodies of 21 individuals, including a child, were laid to rest by Anjuman Mufidul Islam after they went unclaimed following the government crackdown linked to the quota reform movement. The bodies were handed over by the police from the morgues of three government hospitals in Dhaka over the past three days.
Sources from Anjuman Mufidul Islam reported that nine bodies, including that of a child, were transferred from Dhaka Medical College morgue on Monday. On the same day, two more bodies were received from Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College. The following day, a body was handed over from Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford). On Wednesday, an additional nine bodies were collected from Dhaka Medical College Mortuary. All 21 bodies have now been buried in the Rayerbagh area of Mohammadpur, a designated burial site by the City Corporation.
Kamrul Ahmed, an officer from Anjuman Mufidul Islam’s burial service, confirmed the receipt of the bodies but refrained from providing further details.
An anonymous source at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue revealed that six bodies were brought in on Monday, some bearing bullet wounds and others showing signs of severe physical trauma.
